Dimitri Payet has piled more pressure on West Ham United’s under fire owners.
West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have come under fire of late.
With the Hammers sat rock bottom of the Premier League with no points and a minus eight goal difference pressure has been mounting on Slaven Bilic.
But supporters are furious over issues with the London Stadium – including the fact they have had to wait until mid-September to play there – since moving from the Boleyn Ground last summer.
They are also deeply unhappy with the club’s handling of Bilic and a lack of ambition in the transfer market since the stadium move after being promised a new era with big signings and pushing to compete with the top six.
The fallout from the comical William Carvalho blame-game saga has hurt Sullivan’s reputation among fans even more, perhaps beyond repair.
The Hammers faithful feel Sullivan and Gold do not have the ambition to take the club on to the promised next level and protests against the board are planned for the first home game against Huddersfield.
So comments from hate figure and former star Dimitri Payet this week will only add to the pressure on the owners.
The talismanic Frenchman broke Hammers hearts when he forced through a return to Marseille back in January citing family reasons, as reported at the time by the likes of The Sun.
But in an interview with French football magazine So Foot Payet claims the real reason he left was because West Ham had a lack of ambition after their record-breaking first season under Bilic.
“West Ham’s objectives weren’t the same as the last season, and I felt in danger for my football and my chances with the national team,” Payet told So Foot.
“I had a choice to make.”
Many fans have sympathised with Payet on social media before his latest revelation, blaming the owners for failing to deliver quality signings to push West Ham on again as they had pledged.
The warning signs were on the wall when the Hammers were knocked out of Europa League qualifying by Romainian minnows Astra Giurgiu and things have not been the same since.
