West Ham United star Dimitri Payet has insisted to the club’s official website that his superb rabona assist was done solely off instinct.

The midfielder produced arguably the moment of the weekend for the Hammers as he provided a rabona assist for Michail Antonio’s goal.

It was the latest moment of magic from the Frenchman, who fans have become accustomed to seeing him doing such things since he arrived last summer.

Such a piece of skill takes plenty of practice on the training field for most players, but Payet insists for him it was just the best thing to do at that moment.

“It was something that came instinctively to me at that time in the game,” he told the club’s official website.

“I thought that it was the best thing to do at that moment and I did it and it worked. When it works, the skill becomes even more impressive.”

The midfielder has also insisted that he is certain he can continue his fine from last season this year.

The Frenchman proved to be one of the stars of the show last season with a series of impressive performances for the Hammers.

He carried that through into the summer, starring for France as they made it to the final of Euro 2016.

The question now is whether he can carry that on and he says he has returned from his experiences with the same goals.

“I have come back with the same ambitions that I had last season,” he added.

“I want to do the best I can on the pitch and to perform as I know I can both with my club and the national side.”
