Aston Villa’s Championship woes continued last night as they were dispatched comfortably by Newcastle United.
The game became even more of a disaster when Scott Hogan had to be stretchered off with a serious looking ankle injury.
With his injury now looming Aston Villa might be wise to look at the free agent market, and one man in particular – Dimitar Berbatov.
The Bulgarian made the news this week after appearing on the BBC as two of his former clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham faced off in the FA Cup.
He admitted on the show that he wants to continue his playing career at the age of 36.
The natural goalscorer, whose last club was Greek side PAOK Salonika, looked in great shape still and could be exactly what Aston Villa need.

Jonathan Kodjia, for all his talent, is greedy. He rarely brings other players into the game. Hogan looks like he faces a spell on the sidelines and the talents of Gabriel Agbonlahor have been dwindling for some time.
What Villa need is a striker who can bring those around him into the game. Berbatov undoubtedly still has that quality and the likes of Henri Lansbury, Jack Grealish and Kodjia could certainly benefit from having the Bulgarian to feed off.
Goals? He brings those as well. He has scored 122 goals in English football at Spurs, Manchester United and Fuham and although he may have some lead in those boots now he would bring much needed quality up front for Aston Villa.
