The Bulgarian is pleased that Tottenham Hotspur look like title contenders.

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Dimitar Berbatov has been discussing the improvement of the side since he left the club back in 2008.

Berbatov left Spurs in 2008 after two seasons at the club, joining Manchester United. With his languid but elegant style he became and remains a cult hero – scoring 46 goals in 102 games for the North London club.

Berbatov was at Wembley tonight as Spurs took on Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League – a clash between two of the mercurial Bulgarian’s former clubs.

Whilst at the game he spoke to BBC 5Live Sport and had this to say about Tottenham, insisting that they have what it takes to win the Premier League this season.

Berbatov also praised chairman Daniel Levy, stating:

“Generally I think Spurs have come a long way from when I was there.

“They have improved greatly. I always knew they would become better and better. The chairman and team wanted to grow and to be honest they have great chance to attack first place in the league.

“They need to stay concentrated through the full season.”

Spurs pushed Leicester City a long way in the race for the title last season, but came up short. This season it looks like Tottenham are set to be in the reckoning once again but the competition is fierce – with Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea all looking like genuine title contenders.

But if Spurs can remain focused for the whole season, there is no reason why they can’t come out on top.
