Tottenham are facing demotion to the Europa League.

Dimitar Berbatov has told Betfair that Tottenham Hotspur should entertain the chance to compete in the Europa League after a disappointing 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven.
Spurs face a huge uphill task to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, after picking up their only points of the campaign in Holland on Tuesday night. They have previously suffered losses to Barcelona and Inter Milan.
Barcelona sit at the top of the group on nine points, while Inter Milan have just at six. Spurs and PSV sit on one, and now Mauricio Pochettino’s side must play host to Inter and PSV, while travelling to the Nou Camp.
If they are to stand any chance, they must win all three games but that is hugely unlikely. Former Spurs man Berbatov has urged Spurs fans to embrace finishing third and qualifying for the Europa League.
“Spurs will continue to fight for Champions League qualification while it’s still possible but it looks like a very tough task now with one point from three games, which means the next best thing is dropping into the Europa League,” Berbatov said.
“I know it hasn’t got the same prestige, but it remains a good competition and, as I’ve said before, Spurs need to win a trophy so it would represent a realistic chance to do that.
“But they will need to start holding on to leads first. And that’s about paying attention to the small details.”

The jury is still out on whether the Europa League is beneficial to Tottenham, in what is a lesser competition. But Berbatov believes Pochettino can finally put his trophy hunt behind him by competing in the Europa League.
Spurs are next in action against Manchester City on Monday afternoon, as they look to continue their best ever start to a Premier League season in which they have won seven of their nine league games.
