Pep Guardiola has stated that ‘it’s difficult’ to understand the margins for offside after Manchester City and Tottenham had goals disallowed by small margins, as he told Amazon Prime.

The Manchester City boss referenced Harry Kane’s offside goal during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at Southampton.

VAR judged that by a very small inch, the Englishman was offside after a brilliant first touch and finish from the Spurs striker.

Whilst that proved costly for Spurs, it wasn’t the case for Man City last night during their 1-0 win at Brentford.

With the clock ticking towards full-time, VAR ruled Aymeric Laporte’s goal offside, the margin was as small as Kane’s was, if anything, from St Mary’s.

Guardiola mentioned it during his post-match interview and probably had a smile on his face because his team had won.

“The margins in these kinds of situations,” said Guardiola. “You know Southampton-Tottenham and the disallowed goal for Harry Kane.

“So, the lines, I don’t know. The margin is so. You put the line here and you put the line here.

“Sometimes it’s difficult to know it. But it’s disallowed.”

On paper, Man City may have the three points, unlike Spurs, but it’s something that could still prove to be costly.

Whilst the current champions have opened up an eight-point lead at the top of the table, the title race has gone down to the wire before.

And whilst it’s looking unlikely to happen this season, it could still go to goal difference, so those little moments all add up.

Either way, Guardiola wasn’t too fussed about it compared to Antonio Conte, who was rightly annoyed by it all.
