Douglas Luiz has praised Aston Villa for their 2-1 win over Brighton on Sunday and how they managed to secure maximum points during a ‘difficult’ match, as he posted on Instagram.
It was a tale of two halves for the Villa midfielder and Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.
Within the first minute, as Emi Martinez tried to play the ball out from the back, Luiz was robbed of possession by the alert and aggressive Mac Allister, before opening the scoring.

Despite that very early setback, Unai Emery’s side, who beat Manchester United in the Premier League the week before, pulled a goal back via the penalty spot.
Danny Ings was the man who stepped up, and in the second half, he was at it again, with Luiz in the thick of the action once more.
This time, he was the one dispossessing Mac Allister of the ball on the edge of Brighton’s box, feeding the ball to Ings, who kept his composure, put Lewis Dunk on the floor, before adding his second of the game and Villa’s match-winning goal.
After the match, Luiz sent the following message to fans:
“How good it is to win,” said Luiz. “Incredible feeling. A difficult match that we started losing and we had the ability to win the match. Let’s go Villa.”
POSITIVE START FOR EMERY
That’s three games, plenty of goals, two wins and one defeat for Unai Emery after he replaced Steven Gerrard in the dugout.
This break for the 2022 World Cup will do him the world of good because it will allow him to work with the players and have a mini pre-season.
Given that the Midlands side, from top to bottom, declined all over the pitch during the past 12 months, it meant that only a few of the club’s players will be going to World Cup.
From that perspective, it’s a big plus for Villa because Emery can work with a large chunk of them other than Emi Martinez, Matty Cash, Jan Bednarek and Leander Dendoncker.
