Clinton Morrison has claimed that he feels ‘sorry’ for Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford after a ‘difficult’ England debut, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (11/09/21 at 1:15 pm).
Last Sunday, the Leeds man made his England bow during their 4-0 win against minnows Andorra.
Whilst it was a day to remember for Bamford, in terms of earning his first Three Lions cap, he didn’t manage to find the back of the net and cause the problems he would have liked on the day.
Morrison says his England teammates didn’t play to his strengths, but he thinks he will get the desired service now he has returned to Yorkshire.
“I did feel sorry for him,” said Morrison. “I think he still did a lot of good stuff, pulling off defenders and getting knockdowns.
“But it was difficult because England didn’t get to the byline. He needs to get crosses into the box. At Leeds, he gets crosses into the box.
“I still think he did well. But if you are going to look at the one game, the Andorra game, then you want to score on debut.”

Days later, England did face off against Poland in Warsaw, but Gareth Southgate opted against making any changes from the bench.
If Bamford was handed another chance, at that time, then perhaps he would have shown a different side to his game.
He was slightly unlucky last week because his teammates weren’t feeding him the ball as much and they were too greedy on the ball.
That resulted in his off-the-ball runs not being rewarded and then the less selfless players, Jack Grealish and Mason Mount, came onto the pitch after he went off.
Either way, he will be hoping for another shot at representing his country next month.
