Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League title this season.

While defending champions Manchester City are the favourites to win this campaign’s Premier League title, Arsenal and Liverpool are expected to push them hard.

Arsenal almost won the title last season, while I expect Liverpool to do much better this time.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have very strong teams, and Steve Nicol has made an interesting observation.

Steve Nicol on 3 Arsenal players who could transform Arsenal

The Liverpool legend and ESPN FC pundit has noted that if Liverpool had William Saliba, Gabriel and Declan Rice in their team, then they would be an entirely “different team”.

Saliba and Gabriel are the two main centre-backs at Arsenal.

Declan Rice, who joined Arsenal from West Ham United in the summer transfer window, has made himself a regular in defensive midfield for the North London club.

Nicol said on ESPN FC, as transcribed by RTK: “Right now, Saliba, Gabriel and Rice in front of them. You stick that on Liverpool right now and they are a different team.

“If you put those three in Liverpool’s team, then it’s a different ball game.”

My View: Arsenal’s defensive unit better than Liverpool’s

In my opinion, Arsenal have a better defensive unit than Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk is not the same player he was, and Ibrahima Konate is still developing as a footballer.

I believe that Joep Matip is past his prime.

William Saliba is one of the best young centre-backs in the world, and Declan Rice is a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the park.
