Stephen Warnock has praised Cristian Romero for finding a ‘different level’ under Ange Postecoglou this season.
The Argentina international won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar last season and enjoyed one of the greatest moments of his life.
But, in the colours of Tottenham, it was a complete and utter horror show. From home and away to Arsenal to that defeat at St James’ Park.
Former Premier League left-back Stephen Warnock thinks summer signing Micky van de Ven has helped improve Cristian Romero, as he told The Football Show on Sky Sports (30/10/23 at 12:25 pm).
The rising Dutch star has made an incredible start to life as a Spurs player, which even drew praise from Arsenal’s legendary manager, Arsene Wenger.
But Stephen Warnock was also sure to mention the man brought in during Nuno Espirito Santo’s ill-fated reign as Spurs boss, Cristian Romero.
Romero’s improvement
“Romero has improved alongside him (van de Ven),” said Warnock. “I think he has found a different level.”

Tottenham’s defence
That was the biggest problem last season, even though then-manager Antonio Conte would play five at the back.
The players performed like they were throwing everyone forward and leaving so much space behind their defence because they were getting ripped apart.
Ironically enough, that’s what they are doing now, yet, the team is putting in outstanding performances at the back.
Postecoglou has found his long-term centre-back pairing in Romero and van de Ven, it’s now a case of adding depth in quality because Eric Dier certainly isn’t the answer to this new-look Tottenham side sitting top of the Premier League table.
