Tim Sherwood has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were on the verge of replacing Harry Kane in favour of a move for Alvaro Morata.
Speaking on Optus Sport, the former Spurs boss made this revelation, as he gave an insight into his conversations with the-then technical director of the club, Franco Baldini.
While Tim Sherwood was insistent on Harry Kane staying and starting for Tottenham Hotspur, Franco Baldini had his sights set on signing Alvaro Morata.
Ex-Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood snubbed a move for Alvaro Morata to keep Harry Kane
Ultimately, Sherwood’s faith was rewarded, as Kane has gone on to become the club’s all-time top goalscorer, while the Spaniard, who joined Atletico Madrid for £58.3 million (Sky Sports) in 2019 has not lived up to his potential.
However, at the time, Baldini had full faith in the former Chelsea striker coming good if he signed for the Lilywhites.
Tim Sherwood has now given an insight into how close Tottenham were to upgrading Harry Kane for Alvaro Morata.

“He wasn’t sure he (Kane) was good enough, Franco (said that). I said ‘how do you know he’s not good enough, I know the Premier League better than you and I’m telling you he’s good enough.’ He said that we should bring Morata in, he worked with him at Real Madrid and said he was different class to him and said I was biased towards younger players.”
Harry Kane has proven his doubters wrong time and again
At the end of the way, Tottenham should thank Tim Sherwood to this day, not for being against a move for Alvaro Morata but more due to his unwavering trust in Harry Kane.
It is common knowledge that Kane was not the most naturally talented footballer and many believed he would not make the cut at Spurs.
However, as the 2022/2023 season has shown especially, the England captain is not affected by any of his surroundings as he has displayed a habit of simply accomplishing greatness.
While Harry Kane’s lack of silverware dominates all the talk around him, the fact that he has remained the best striker in the league for a majority of nine years showcases why it was always silly to doubt him.
