Andy Reid has claimed that it’s only a matter of time before Harvey Elliott is ‘banging in goals’ for Liverpool’s senior side.
The 17-year-old has been a revelation since joining Blackburn Rovers in the Championship this past summer.
So far, Elliott, who joined Liverpool from Fulham in the summer of 2019, has scored four goals and set up another five from 16 first-team appearances under Tony Mowbray.
By virtue of the fact he isn’t even 18, it’s fair to say that the Reds have an absolute gem on their hands and former Tottenham Hotspur star Reid has told BBC Radio 5 Live that the youngster is just ‘different class’.
He said: “I seen him playing in the 23s game for Liverpool last year and he was different class. He scored one there a few weeks ago when he cut inside and put one in the top corner.
“This [loan spell] will do him the world of good, getting games in the Championship. I know they’re very excited for him at Liverpool. For me it won’t be too long before we see him banging in goals for Liverpool.”
Reid is right.
It’s always dangerous to talk up young players about making waves in a Premier League club’s senior squad, because of how many bright youngsters have failed to make the grade despite their potential.
But Elliott absolutely looks as if he’s someone who will dazzle for Liverpool in the very near future, based on how mature and comfortable he looks at this level.
