Clinton Morrison has questioned whether Everton will have the funds to sign Wilfried Zaha on deadline day despite the Crystal Palace man wanting a ‘different challenge’.

But Morrison, who is a former Palace player himself, believes ‘it would be difficult’ for a deal to be done because those at Selhurst Park would need to find a replacement, as he told Sky Sports News (04/10/20 at 10:55 am)

Back in July, the Sun (print edition, page 57, July 30) did report Everton’s interest in the versatile speedster.

Morrison labelled Zaha as an ‘exceptional’ player and whilst he questioned whether Everton could possibly sign him before the 11 pm deadline, he also ruled out the possibility of anything happening because it’s too late now.

“For Zaha himself, and I don’t think Palace fans will mind me saying that, he would probably want to go to a bigger club than Crystal Palace,” Morrison told Sky Sports.

“You look at it with Wilf and say ‘where is he going to go?’. Everyone has kind of done their business. I was thinking maybe there was a lot of talk about him going to Everton.

Biggest Premier League transfer deadline day deals in 2019

  1. Alex Iwobi

    Arsenal to Everton: £34 million

  2. Ismaila Sarr

    Rennes to Watford: £30 million

  3. Ryan Sessegnon

    Fulham to Tottenham: £25 million

  4. Kieran Tierney

    Celtic to Arsenal: £25 million

  5. Dennis Praet

    Sampdoria to Leicester: £18 million

“But Everton have spent big money in the summer and they have just brought in Ben Godrey from Norwich, so is there money to go and get Zaha?

“For him, I know he would want a different challenge and I think he deserves a different challenge – he is an exceptional player. He is one of my favourite players in the Premier League.”

On whether fans would forgive him if he left on Deadline day: “They cannot not forgive him,” Morrison added.

“That would be up to the chairman, the manager and the board for making that deal unless you are going to bring someone else in. It would be difficult.”

Everton are shining bright at the top of the Premier League table, so everything is currently rosy in the Goodison Park garden.

Whilst a player like Zaha would elevate this progressive Carlo Ancelotti side, it would come as a surprise if a deal is now done so late on.

At first, it has to be questioned whether the Toffees would throw such big-money at him so late on and then it’s a case of Palace allowing him to leave with hours left on the transfer clock.
