Dietmar Hamann reacted on Twitter after watching Mo Salah double Liverpool’s lead in the first half, by describing his first touch as “out of this world”. The Reds eased to a 4-0 win at Anfield, over Manchester United.
Salah, 29, scored his first goal from open play since February 19 when he controlled a gorgeous first-time pass from Sadio Mane, before slotting coolly past David De Gea. Liverpool had taken the lead through Luis Diaz.
The Egyptian was on hand to create the first, played in on the right and supplying an inch-perfect square to Diaz to tap home. His goal and Liverpool’s second saw Mane chip the ball over to him, before scoring.
Sadio Mane made it three in the second half, a break from Andy Robertson saw Diaz find Mane and his first-touch finish was excellent. But Salah’s first was the pick of the four – Salah finishing after a neat pass from Diogo Jota.
Salah controlled the ball with his right foot despite the swirl of the ball, with absolute aplomb, before lashing a left-footed shot past De Gea. Ex-Reds midfielder Hamann heaped praise on Salah for his touch on Twitter.
Hamann on Salah: Could be the start of a run for Liverpool star…
Salah’s performances have not dropped off, which is proven by his assist for Diaz – his 12th assist of the season. But what the goal will give Salah and Liverpool, is the hope that he can now go on a run of goalscoring form.
Indeed, it is just what the Reds need at this point in the season. With Liverpool chasing Manchester City, they need to win every single game they have left in the Premier League – and in-form Salah will be crucial to that.
