Liverpool reportedly wanted to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig earlier in the summer transfer window.

Dietmar Hamann has stated on social networking site Twitter that Liverpool do not need to sign a player of the type of Naby Keita.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool were interested in signing Keita from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window, but the German club have decided not sell the 22-year-old midfielder.

The Guinea international was one of the best players for RB Leipzig last season and is one of the best young midfielders in Europe.

The Mirror has claimed that Liverpool are looking at Nice midfielder Jean Seri as an alternative to Keita.

The former Bayern Munich and Newcastle United midfielder, though, has suggested that the Reds should have signed Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder joined Manchester United from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £40 million.
