Everton are expected to be active in the January transfer window.

Dietmaar Hamann has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 10th January, that Everton need to strengthen all areas of their squad in the January transfer window.

Everton are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, but they are a considerable distance behind the top six.

The Toffees have not been in good form over recent months, and they crashed out of the FA Cup against Leicester City in their latest outing.

Everton were beaten 2-1 by the Foxes, which led to an angry response by Ronald Koeman.

The Dutch boss suggested that Everton need to make additions over January, but Hamann believes it is just as imperative that they keep hold of Romelu Lukaku.

“Firstly, they have to try and keep Lukaku,” the former Liverpool man said. “If you take Lukaku out of their team, it looks like a pretty toothless offence.

“They need to strengthen in all areas. I think they need some attacking midfielders.”

One Everton player’s whose future remains unsure is Ross Barkley.

Barkley has improved in recent weeks, but there have still been suggestions that Ronald Koeman is not fully convinced by the England international.

And Hamann suggests that Everton need to make a decision about the 23-year-old sooner rather than later.

“You need to see how Barkley develops in the next few months, because he hasn’t really stepped forward,” Hamann added.

“They need to make a decision on whether they keep him or take the money and add another two or three players.”
