Everton are believed to be hoping to snap up Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney this summer.

Dietmaar Hamann has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 4th July, that Everton would be making a great signing by bringing in Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

TalkSPORT claim that Everton are ready to step up their pursuit of Rooney in the near future, with the Toffees putting the 31-year-old near the top of their transfer wishlist.

And Hamann believes that Everton bringing Rooney to Goodison Park would be good news for all of the Premier League.

England's Wayne Rooney

“I think if he were to go there it could galvanise the football club,” the former Liverpool midfielder said.

“People have got disillusioned, so he could galvanise them. I’d rather see him in an Everton shirt than in China. If they could get that deal done, it’d be great news for the whole of the Premier League.”

Rooney began his career at Everton, and is still highly regarded at Goodison Park.

However, the veteran forward has shown signs of age in recent times at United.

Rooney’s form has dropped for the Red Devils, and there are question marks over what he can offer a top level side.

If Rooney was to join Everton, he would face fierce competition for a place in Ronald Koeman’s squad.

Everton have invested heavily this summer, with Koeman’s options at Goodison Park now looking very strong.
