Glenn Hoddle shared that he noticed Eric Dier ‘shouting at Hojbjerg’ to go out and close down N’Golo Kante during Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to their London rivals on Sunday.
The Tottenham legend felt that Hojbjerg could have gone ‘face-to-face’ with Kante, who scored the second of Chelsea’s three goals, as he told Premier League Productions (19/09/21 at 7:00 pm).
It was a game riddled by mistakes from Spurs and not even the club’s £15 million defensive rock (Sky Sports) could do anything about it.
Since Hojbjerg’s arrival in North London, he has been outstanding for the club, but he didn’t have the best of times with his teammates over the weekend.
And Hoddle thinks it was the Denmark international who was seemingly at fault for the second goal Spurs conceded on Sunday.
“I thought that Dier was shouting at Hojbjerg to go out,” said Hoddle. “He was the spare one. Dier had somebody to pick up.
“He actually could have gone. He stood his ground and tried to block it. I thought he could have gone face-to-face with (Kante).”

The signs aren’t good for Spurs, but a win in a cup competition – the League Cup on Wednesday night – could change the mood towards a more positive direction.
Spurs will take on Wolves tomorrow, with Nuno returning back to his old hunting ground for a second time this season.
If they can win this fixture, like they did during the opening weeks of the Premier League campaign, then it will lift the mood because they would then keep their name in the hat for the next round.
But if they suffer defeat then there is going to be serious heat coming Nuno’s way, and that’s the last thing he needs with another London derby on the horizon.
