According to talkSPORT, Wolves have decided to hold talks with Julen Lopetegui about replacing Bruno Lage, in a decision we feel will please Diego Costa.

Ideal for Diego Costa at Wolves

When the 33-year-old agreed to join Wolves on a deal until the end of the season, he surely didn’t expect to see Lage sacked so quickly.

However, things look set to work out nicely for Costa if Lopetegui does arrive at Molineux.

The Spaniard – who was sacked by Sevilla last night after a heavy defeat to Borussia Dortmund – actually managed the feisty striker during his time in charge of the Spanish national team.

Despite his frequent hotheadedness on the pitch, Costa was understood by Lopetegui, who openly told the media that he enjoyed seeing the Brazil-born forward’s aggressive side, and said he loved him just the way he is.

As quoted by FourFourTwo, the 56-year-old said: “If you are with us it is because we consider that your presence is important. We love you just the way you are. We want him a little angry. We love that part of Diego and we look for it.”

It isn’t often that we see such backing from a manager, so Costa will surely be delighted to hear that Wolves have now entered talks to hire Lopetegui as a replacement for Lage.

Diego Costa could now shine for Wolves

We all know what Costa is capable of in the Premier League, as seen during his prolific stint at Chelsea in which he scored 52 goals in 90 Premier League appearances.

The Lagarto-born striker is no longer the player he once was, now he is 33, although his respect for Lopetegui could see him unlock a new side to his game at this stage of his career.

Costa has previously praised the Spaniard for making him feel more at home on the international scene following a difficult time under Vicente del Bosque, so there is clearly a mutual respect between the two.

Again quoted by FourFourTwo, the striker said: “It’s really important when the coach has the trust in you. I’m more comfortable now, little by little I’m getting more confident and I’m improving my game.”

If Lopetegui does arrive at Molineux, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if Costa found a run of form.
