According to Czesław Michniewicz, a deal involving Leeds happened in October against the wishes of Marcelo Bielsa.

Speaking to Sport.pl, the Legia Warsaw boss revealed that Bielsa didn’t want to loan Mateusz Bogusz to Spain.

However, the 10-cap Poland Under-21 international eventually ended up there, joining UD Logroñés.

Michniewicz said: “I must admit that I would like him to be in Legia. It may not be a realistic transfer, because Bielsa did not want to agree to loan Mateusz to Spain. Many English clubs prefer to loan them to League One than to another leagues, and unfortunately they treat us that way.”

Now, this is very interesting.

If Bielsa didn’t want him to go to Spain, then how did the deal happen?

Was it a case of Victor Orta pushing the deal through, or did Bogusz himself believe the move would suit him better?

Regardless of what happened, you can see why Bielsa might want his prodigies loaned out to other English clubs, rather than foreign sides.

There’s no point sending the player aboard, only for them to become accustomed to a style of play that isn’t necessarily suited to the Premier League.

Additionally, loaning them to other English sides makes it easier to check up on them.

It would be simpler for Orta, or another Leeds representative, to see how one of the players is doing in person, instead of flying all over the globe.

Bogusz is seemingly struggling in Spain with just one goal and one assist in 18 La Liga 2 appearances this season.

In that respect, perhaps it would’ve been better to keep him in England.
