Speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville has shared what two Leeds players told him about Jesse Marsch when he asked about the new manager.
Jesse Marsch had massive shoes to fill when he arrived at Elland Road, but according to Neville, the two players he spoke to have been very impressed.
In fact, Neville says that he was a bit taken aback by how positive the players he spoke to were, claiming that he expected them to be such strong disciples of Marcelo Bielsa that they’d struggle to accept a new manager.
What’s been said?
Neville shared what he was told.
“I spoke to a couple of the Leeds lads, I know one of them really well, and I said ‘what is he like?’ An open ended question. They said ‘really impressive, his sessions have been fantastic, really good.’ I didn’t expect that answer from the two Leeds lads I spoke to because I imagined they’d be so Bielsa-mad with what he’s done there, but they actually spoke really well of him. I wouldn’t say anything if they hadn’t done, but they were really positive about his energy, the spirit and I thought, yeah, fair enough,” Neville said.

The Bielsa era is over
Marcelo Bielsa had a massive impact at Leeds, but the Bielsa-era is over and it seems as though Leeds’ squad have quickly accepted that.
The American has replaced the Argentine, and it seems as though it hasn’t really taken him long to make his mark at Elland Road.
If the Leeds players are impressed by Marsch, then they should quickly surge up the table. After all, this is a squad that proved capable of finishing ninth last season.
Let’s see whether or not Marsch can outdo his predecessor in the coming years.
