Suffice to say, Newcastle United supporters are underwhelmed by speculation regarding Marouane Fellaini.

Newcastle have already signed Kieran Trippier in the January transfer window but, with the Magpies battling for their Premier League lives, more is needed.

According to Belgium-based publication La Dernière Heure, the St James’s Park outfit are interested in signing Premier League veteran Fellaini before the window shuts.

The 34-year-old attacker is plying his trade with Chinese club Shandong Luneng Taishan these days.

And, well, Newcastle supporters aren’t mad on the idea of bringing him to Tyneside.

Here’s how a chunk of the fanbase has reacted on Twitter:

Good signing?

Listen, Newcastle could definitely make worse signings in January.

Fellaini is certainly coming to the end of his playing career but considering pace wasn’t part of his arsenal to begin with, losing speed shouldn’t have a detrimental impact on his ability.

Besides, we’re also talking about a player with 260 Premier League appearances under his belt.

Newcastle need a combination of quality and experience to help them escape the relegation zone before the campaign finishes.

And although Fellaini is certainly getting older, maybe, just maybe, he still has enough quality and be an asset for the Magpies.

Goals

With a fortune of £320 billion, we know Newcastle’s Saudi Public Investment Fund can afford what would almost certainly be a short-term transfer.

With 37 goals in England’s top flight under his belt too, he is also undeniably a threat to opposition defences, even if he occasionally uses an elbow as leverage.

And considering Newcastle have only netted 19 times in the Premier League this season, goals are massively important.

Much of what is written in January will prove false in the context of transfers but who knows, perhaps Fellaini wouldn’t be an awful addition if this materialises, despite his advancing years.
