Former Ibrox manager Stuart McCall has suggested to The Scottish Sun that Rangers winger Ryan Kent needs to step up his game.

McCall, who was in charge of Rangers in 2015 and played for the Gers from 1991 until 1998, has said that he expected more from Kent this season following his permanent move from Liverpool.

As reported by BBC Sport, the Gers paid Liverpool £7 million in transfer fees to complete the signing of the 23-year-old winger on a permanent contract.

The former England Under-20 international spent the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Rangers from Liverpool.

McCall told The Scottish Sun: “When you spend £7m on a player in Scotland he has to be a game-changer, but Ryan Kent didn’t do that often enough last season. Hopefully, he’ll be better for that experience and will show what he can do this time out.”

Stats

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Kent scored seven goals in 21 Scottish Premiership matches, and scored one goal and provided two assists in seven Europa League games for Rangers this season.

During his loan spell at Ibrox during the 2018-19 campaign, the winger scored six goals and provided six assists in the league, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Stepping up

With Rangers aiming to stop their bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic from winning the Scottish Premiership title next season, Kent will have to step up his game for Steven Gerrard’s side.
