Tottenham Hotspur snapped up Serge Aurier on deadline day.
Tottenham Hotspur made two new additions on deadline day, as Mauricio Pochettino capped off his summer transfer activity on the final day of trading.
Having brought in Paulo Gazzaniga, Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth in the run-up to deadline day, Tottenham still found room to add two more players before Thursday’s deadline.
Right back Serge Aurier arrived from Paris Saint-Germain, before Spurs also tied up the surprise signature of Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente in the dying embers of deadline day.
The addition of Aurier appears to be a major on-field coup for Tottenham, with BBC Sport reporting that the fee involved is just £23million – around half of what Spurs sold right back Kyle Walker to Manchester City for earlier this summer.
Aurier, 24, has impressed for PSG since signing from Toulouse in 2014, but with Thomas Meunier and Dani Alves ahead of him in the pecking order – and with some off-field misdemeanours haunting him – Aurier has moved on to Tottenham.
An attack-minded right back, Aurier can replace the pace, energy and drive that Walker brought down the right, whilst also possessing an impressive end product, which will delight striker Harry Kane.
Didier Zokora
Aurier isn’t the first Ivorian international to play for Tottenham, given that Didier Zokora racked up almost 100 appearances for Tottenham following a 2006 move from Saint-Etienne, before leaving in 2009.
Now, Zokora – who played alongside Aurier for the Ivory Coast – has taken to Twitter to wish Aurier luck with Spurs, telling him he has joined a very big club in Tottenham.
