Black Cats midfielder Didier N’Dong spoke to the Northern Echo, and urged his teammates to ease the pressure on Jermain Defoe by contributing more in the goalscoring department during the remainder of their campaign.
David Moyes’ men are currently in a whole world of trouble, marooned at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Sitting only two points adrift of safety, however, they are by no means down yet, and if the entire team can chip in with more goals, there is no reason why they cannot retain their top flight status.
And N’Dong, who moved to the Stadium of Light from Lorient in the summer of 2016, echoed that sentiment, when speaking to the Northern Echo, highlighting the need to produce in the final third collectively, rather than relying on Defoe:
“I think we need to score more goals as a team and not just one man. It needs to be collectively that we’re adding goals. So we have to believe in ourselves that we can do it and help the team.”

The Sunderland squad are currently in New York on a mid-season intensive training camp, as they look to refresh their bodies and minds for the difficult challenge that lies ahead of them.
And upon their return, they face a quartet of vitally important games, as far as their hopes of survival are concerned.
Away trips to Everton and Middlesbrough are accompanied by home games against Manchester City and Burnley, and a return of at least seven points from those games will surely be their target, as they look to climb their way out of trouble.
