Tottenham Hotspur signed Serge Aurier in the summer transfer window.
Didier Drogba has joked to Sky Sports that former Ivory Coast team-mate and new Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier joined the wrong team.
The 24-year-old completed a £24 million move to Tottenham from Paris Saint-Germain toward the end of the summer transfer window last month.
By virtue of the fact that Spurs are big rivals with Chelsea, where Drogba spent nine years over two spells, the legendary hitman has joked that his compatriot and “younger brother” joined the wrong club, but insists he is happy to see him in England’s top flight.
“I just spoke to him a few hours ago,” Drogba said on Sky Sports. “He’s so happy to be in England and of course we’re going to help him.
“He’s my younger brother so I’m going to give him some tips. He plays for the wrong team! But I’m happy for him, very happy for his move.”
Aurier replaces Kyle Walker in North London, following his £54 million switch to Manchester City, and will challenge Kieran Trippier for the right-back slot.
The former Burnley man looked good in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Everton, so displacing Trippier is no easy feat but Aurier will be confident that he can seriously challenge.
Tottenham kick off their Champions League campaign at Wembley on Wednesday with a visit of Borussia Dortmund, so it remains to be seen whether Aurier – unfit for selection at the weekend – is given the nod ahead of the 26-year-old at right-back tomorrow.
