The former Liverpool midfielder took to social media after the goalkeeper was penalised for holding the ball for no less than 21 seconds.
Dietmar Hamann took to Twitter after seeing Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet hold the ball for no less than 21 seconds on Thursday night.
The Belgian shot stopper caught the ball and kept in his hands well past the six-second limit inside his own penalty area.
Bordeaux were subsequently awarded an indirect free-kick and scored from the resulting set-piece, putting the French side ahead even though Liverpool fought back to win in the Europa League.
And Hamann took to Twitter to suggest the Reds goalkeeper can have no complaints after the decision.
Meanwhile, the German also joked about the Mignolet incident after a follower responded to him on social media.
Indeed, it was put to Hamann in light-hearted fashion that the shot stopper held onto the ball longer than the former midfielder spent at Bolton.
The good news for Liverpool is that Mignolet’s mishap hasn’t stopped them from progressing from their Europa League group. Then again, there will no doubt be those who secretly hope the Reds are knocked out to allow them to focus on domestic matters! They may have a point…
