Didi Hamann has written on PaddyPower.com that he found it “a bit strange” when Tottenham Hotspur signed Moussa Sissoko in August.
Tottenham spent a club-record £30 million on signing the Frenchman from Newcastle United in the dying stages of the transfer window this past summer.
The 26-year-old has hardly set the Premier League alight following his move to North London, failing to score or set one up in any of his six league outings so far.
Sissoko received widespread criticism for his performance in Spurs’ 1-0 Champions League defeat by Bayer Leverkusen at Wembley in midweek.
It seems like the France international, who impressed for Les Bleus during Euro 2016, has a long way to go before he justifies the big money spent on bringing him to White Hart Lane.
But former Liverpool midfielder Hamann suggests that it did not make much sense in the first place.
The former German international claims that breaking your club’s transfer record near the end of the transfer window is an indication that something is not quite right, suggesting it should raise “huge concerns” about Tottenham.
“Bringing Moussa Sissoko in on deadline day was a bit strange when all the other teams did their business early on,” he wrote on PaddyPower.com.
“They made a club record transfer on the last day of the window, for a player they didn’t actually need. That raises huge concerns about how the club is run. There seem to be a lot of things which need to be resolved in-house.”
Sissoko did not have a great season with relegated Newcastle last term, though he certainly offered a timely – and perhaps convenient – reminder of his talent at the Euros.
He has the ability, but Lilywhites fans will wonder he still has the motivation to impress after already securing his move.
