Didi Hamann questions if Jurgen Klopp is ‘still interested’ in being the manager of Liverpool amid the Reds’ troubles. He also feels the Anfield natives must invest so he does not leave.
Liverpool have endured a frustrating campaign so far this term as Klopp’s side labour down the Premier League table. The Merseyside natives enter the weekend in just eighth place on 35 points after 22 games. They have also only won 10 games and lost seven fixtures so far.
Klopp’s squad still have two games in hand over Tottenham Hotspur in fourth place in the race for Champions League qualification. But Spurs head Liverpool by seven points. While Newcastle United in fifth have only played one game more and lead the Reds by six points.

Liverpool’s troubles are not exclusive to the top-flight, either, having already exited the FA Cup and EFL Cup. Their Champions League status this season is also at risk after losing 5-2 to Real Madrid. Los Blancos came from 2-0 down to win their Round of 16 first-leg fixture.
Manchester City eliminated Liverpool from the Carabao Cup in the Round of 16 with a 3-2 win in December. While Brighton dumped the Reds out of the FA Cup in the fourth round in January. The Seagulls took a 2-1 win following a 3-0 victory over Liverpool in the league.
Hamann questions if Klopp is ‘still interested’ in being the manager of Liverpool
Klopp is under contract at Anfield until 2026 having extended his contract as the manager of Liverpool in April 2022. The 55-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire in 2024. While Klopp suggested he would leave rise role as manager of Liverpool when that deal expired.

But the German said in January that ‘unless someone tells me, I will not go’, via BBC Sport. His comments followed the Anfield outfit’s 3-0 loss at Brighton, which left them 10 points off the top four. Yet Hamann still feels Klopp could soon leave his role as manager of Liverpool.
“I don’t know if the coach is still interested,” Hamann wrote in a column for Sky Germany. “Because they can only be competitive with a very large investment. In the last transfer periods, they have held back. But this is not going on, at least not successfully.
“Whether he still wants to and stays is probably only decided by Klopp alone. Don’t forget where the Reds were before he came along and what has happened since.
“Titles, reputation in Europe and the way of playing football have been in other spheres since. They’re pretty good up front but [the] midfield and defence need freshening up.”
