Liverpool have addressed one problem position.

Liverpool have moved to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, paying a club record £75 million for the Dutchman.

Van Dijk will improve the Reds’ leaky defence, but he alone cannot cure some of the problems which have been exposed in Jurgen Klopp’s side in recent months, and last season.

Hamann says Liverpool need to address two more problem positions before they can be confident of having a complete team.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was terrible in the recent 3-3 draw with Arsenal, highlighting that the Reds need to improve the position.

Manager Jurgen Klopp bought stopper Loris Karius in 2016, but he has been unable to convince either, or hold down a regular starting spot.

Liverpool do have Naby Keita arriving next season in midfielder, having clinched a deal for him last summer, but he is not necessarily a destroyer of a defensive midfielder Hamann has in mind.

If Klopp can bring in a new face to play alongside him, Liverpool could become serious contenders to mount a title challenge next season.
