Steve Evans’ exit from Leeds United illustrates the continuous lack of stability at Elland Road, becoming the sixth head coach to be dismissed by Massimo Cellino.

Evans made only one permanent signing as Leeds boss, and it’s fair to wonder if Toumani Diagouraga will be wondering if he made the right decision.

He signed in January for a fee of £800,000, turning down the chance to be reunited with Mark Warburton at Rangers, with the Daily Record the midfielder was a top target.

Diagouraga may wonder what Leeds’s prospects are next season, without the financial power to compete with the likes of Newcastle and Aston Villa in the Championship, and whether he made the wrong move?

Rangers won promotion to the Scottish Premiership, and are hoping to compete for the title next season, ending the season with two trophies.

At the Gers he would have been competing for silverware, while at Leeds it is unclear whether they will get near to promotion, despite their aim to do so.

Perhaps just as questionable, is whether he will be a key part of it, having lost the man who pushed to sign him and made him a regular in the starting line-up, Steve Evans.

He would have had that at Rangers with Mark Warburton for who he featured strongly at Brentford.

Rangers fans will consider this Diagouraga’s loss, having moved to sign Joey Barton now instead, and it is up to the midfielder to show next season that he did make the right choice, and maintain his place as a key part of the Leeds team, and help move them forward.
