The Danish international would be worth a sizeable amount more in today’s market.

This summer football’s transfer spending went into the stratosphere with the massive amounts of cash spent on Neymar and Kyllian Mbappe. Even the amount spent by Everton on Gylfi Sigurdsson raised eyebrows.

It appears the day of the bargain is gone so for Tottenham Hotspur fans they will probably feel comfortable saying they picked up the bargain of the decade.

The player in question is Danish international Christian Eriksen. Spurs snapped him up in 2013 for a fee reported by Sky Sports to be in the region of £11.5 million from Ajax.

That fee now looks outrageous compared to his immense talent. Eriksen has been in fine form this season, perhaps even Spurs’ star player despite the talents of Dele Alli and Harry Kane.

That form has also transcended into his national team. This week he scored a hat-trick and ran the show as Denmark outclassed the Republic of Ireland in Dublin. It was a performance that truly highlighted his potential world-class status

In recent memory he has been linked with the likes of Juventus and Barcelona and while he only cost Spurs £11.5 million back in 2013 it would cost a massive amount more for him to be sold by Spurs in the near future.

There will be plenty of arguments from elsewhere regarding the bargain of the decade, but Eriksen will surely be in the mix.
