Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Clinton Morrison has been discussing Tottenham’s January transfer business and the addition of Arnaut Danjuma to their side.
The Dutch winger has joined Spurs on loan from Villarreal with an option to buy, and while he is a quality player, Morrison has questioned whether or not Tottenham truly needed to bring him in.
Indeed, the pundit says that Spurs’ problems aren’t in the attacking third, suggesting that they may have been better off focusing their attentions on bringing more defensive reinforcements to the club.
Danjuma an unnecessary signing
Morrison discussed Spurs’ business.
“I think they needed more players. I think Porro is a really good wing-back, and in Conte’s teams he likes the wing-backs to be up and down. Danjuma, did they really need Danjuma? I don’t think Tottenham needed it because attacking-wise they’re really good, but defensively they struggle,” Morrison said.
Depth is never a bad thing
Did Tottenham need to sign Danjuma in January? Probably not, but are they a better team for it? Most certainly.
Danjuma doesn’t only add depth to this Spurs side, he adds an element of healthy competition in a spot that needs it.
Let’s face it, Heung-Min Son hasn’t been himself this season, and perhaps the prospect of Danjuma breathing down his neck will light a fresh fire under the South Korean.
Danjuma is a luxury signing, sure, but when you’re chasing a place in the Champions League, you sometimes have to make additions like this.
