The young midfielder left Leeds United this summer despite high hopes for the future.
As announced on Leeds United’s official website earlier this month, the club have opted to release Romario Vieira, leaving only one member of that particular family to wear the club’s crest next season, and one wonders if the 19-year-old has suffered due to Victor Orta’s under-23 revolution.
While Leeds’ director of football has been criticised for many of his senior signings thus far, his work with the Whites’ second string has been considerably more impressive, with some of Europe’s top young talent arriving at Thorp Arch and impressing at youth level.
Some, such as Oriol Rey, have already been rewarded with new contracts, and it seems Romario Vieira has suffered as a consequence, with the Guinea-Bissau international unable to follow his brother Ronaldo into the Leeds first-team.
For a time it looked like the lesser known of the two was going to make it at Elland Road, with a place in the match day squad for Leeds’ Championship games against Hull City and Cardiff City earlier in the campaign. However, that was as good as it got for the youngster and he is now looking for a new club.

Had Orta not added quite so much quality to Leeds’ under-23s, there could have been two Vieira’s named in the Leeds line-up in 2019 and beyond.
Instead, and no doubt to the club’s benefit if the likes of Rey and Madger Gomes can prove their worth, it looks like being two very different paths for the Vieira twins.
