Martin Olsson could reportedly stay in the Championship with Nottingham Forest after being released by Swansea City.
There wasn’t much to get excited about when the Republic of Ireland hosted Sweden in their opening fixture of Euro 2016 in Paris – at least, not for the neutral anyway.
It was a game high on tackles and misplaced passes rather than any discernible class or quality and Sweden snatched a point late on when a Ciaran Clark own goal cancelled out Wes Hoolahan’s opener.
But there was one player who did stand out – Martin Olsson.
The jet-heeled left-back was a constant threat on the flanks with his rapid pace and pinpoint crosses causing no end of problems for Ireland right-back Seamus Coleman. The BBC even named Olsson as their Man of the Match.
Martin O’Neill was the manager of the Republic of Ireland that day and, three years later, he has been linked with a summer switch for Olsson.
Expressen claims that O’Neill wants to bring the now 31-year-old to Nottingham Forest after his contract at Swansea City expired.
And it would be no surprise if O’Neill has been just waiting for a chance to work with Olsson having seen how dangerous the former Blackburn full-back can be when he is in full flow.
