Jason Cummings has started his Rangers spell in mediocre fashion at Ibrox.

Jason Cummings has begun life at Ibrox in unremarkable form as he competes with Alfredo Morelos for a place up front in the Rangers starting line-up, scoring just one goal in five appearances.

The 22-year-old found the back of the net, with the help of a deflection, to beat Ross County 2-1 but other than that, the one-time Scotland international has down very little to show why Graeme Murty lured him north of the border.

The former Hibernian striker started on Wednesday night but failed to find the back of the net during the 2-0 win over Partick Thistle, with Josh Windass and James Tavernier taking on the responsibility instead.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

For Rangers fans, it will be hard to ignore the praise being directed at Motherwell’s January transfer business, after they sold Rangers transfer target Louis Moult to English Championship side Preston North End.

The Well decided to bring Curtis Main to Fir Park from Portsmouth, and the former Middlesbrough forward has shone since his move north of the border – scoring four goals in five Scottish Premiership appearances.

In fact, he has failed to score in just one of his five league appearances, adding to his tally on Tuesday night in the 2-0 win at Fir Park over St. Johnstone.

Known for both his physicality and his speed, Main is mostly renowned for his determination and would have certainly endeared himself to Ibrox fans had he moved to Glasgow instead of Cummings.

Main, 25, joined Motherwell on a free transfer and that will surely annoy Rangers even more, who are lacking in funds themselves.

If Main continues to keep up his impressive strike rate, in contrast to a struggling Cummings, then surely Rangers will have signed the wrong striker from down south.
