Celtic defender Jack Hendry has endured a very difficult start to the new season – and Rangers might be counting themselves a bit lucky.
The 23-year-old former Dundee star courted attention from both Old Firm sides in the January transfer window, with The Record claiming that Rangers – then under Graeme Murty – were plotting to hijack Celtic’s deadline-day offer.
Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers won the £1.2 million race [Sky Sports] for his signature – but fans of the Gers could and probably should be thankful that he didn’t wind up at Ibrox.
Celtic definitely have central defensive problems at the minute but those on the blue half of the Old Firm divide can’t relate.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard brought in Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic during the summer and both have forged a brilliant partnership at the heart of the Blues’ defence.
But would Gerrard have signed both of them if he had a young and promising international defender in his ranks? He certainly would have signed one, but probably not both.
Hendry is certainly young enough to turn things around completely and prove himself a fine capture by Rodgers, but until then it’s looking more and more like Rangers dodged a bullet.
