Mark Warburton has become Fawaz Al Hasawi’s eighth permanent manager in five years.
Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi
Today, Nottingham Forest announced Mark Warburton as their new manager – their eighth permanent manager under owner Fawaz Al Hasawi, and their 10th if you include the two extended caretaker roles Paul Williams and Gary Brazil (twice) have had.
Rewind to a year ago yesterday, and Forest had just sacked Dougie Freedman for failing to get the club – under a transfer embargo limiting them to free transfers and loan signings with a £10k p/w wage limit, and having sold best player Michail Antonio – to the play-offs, as reports the Telegraph. Yes, really.
The situation at Forest is incredible, as – give or take a day or two – the club have had five managers, both temporary and permanent, in the space of a year.
Forest’s instability behind the scenes has seen them lurch towards a Championship relegation battle, with the Reds currently just two points above the drop zone at present.
Evangelos Marinakis (central)
The Al Hasawi reign has been a total disaster, making you seriously question why Warburton would even consider going while he was there – however, the picture has become clearer following news that Evangelos Marinakis has reignited his interest to takeover the club, as reports the Guardian.
As Marinakis has worked wonders with Olympiacos, maybe Warburton felt the managerial shambles at Forest would be coming to an end. Time will tell if this is the case, or not.
