Having won just one of their eight matches since Aitor Karanka was named manager, did Nottingham Forest make a mistake appointing him?
An 85th-minute equaliser from Lee Tomlin ensured that Nottingham Forest did not lose their fourth successive home match in the Championship after drawing 1-1 with Reading.
The result moved the Reds level on points with Sheffield Wednesday in the lower reaches of the table and stopped the Royals immediately behind them closing the gap.
Yet while Tomlin’s late goal stopped it being another disastrous night at the City Ground for the home side, in truth it has been a disappointing run of results since Aitor Karanka was named manager on January 8.
When Karanka was named boss following the sacking of Mark Warburton, Forest were in 14th, 11 points off the playoff places and eight from the relegation zone.
Since then they have lost four of their seven league games, drawn two and picked up one win with a surprise 2-0 victory away to runaway leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Hull City.
Having taken Middlesbrough up to the Premier League in his previous job, on the face of it appointing Karanka probably seemed like a good idea, but with results and form as bad as it is and that gap to the top six having now extended to 16 points, is it turning out to be a mistake?
