Nicklas Bendtner joined Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window.

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk recently told The Yorkshire Evening Post that he was happy with the transfer business he did in the summer.

However, Monk admitted that ideally he would have loved to have added another striker to the squad for the 2016-17 Championship campaign.

Marcus Antonsson and Chris Wood are the two main strikers on the books of Leeds at the moment, while Souleymane Doukara appears to be the third choice and Kemar Roofe is also able to operate in that role.

Despite the presence of Doukara and Roofe, it is clear that the West Yorkshire outfit need(ed) another recognised striker.

Nicklas Bendtner would have been a good choice.

True, Bendtner is not exactly a great striker and his time at Arsenal and Wolfsburg did not go according to plan, but under the current circumstances he would have been a decent signing.

The Denmark international striker was available on a free transfer, and Nottingham Forest snapped him up in the summer.

The fact that Forest, who are themselves in the Championship at the moment, were able to secure the services of the former Premier League striker proves that Bendtner could have been convinced to move to Leeds.

Moving to the Championship after playing in the Premier League and in the Bundesliga is a step-down for any footballer, but it is clear that the 28-year-old was ready for a switch to the second tier of English football.

Bendtner would not have been the first-choice striker at Leeds, but he would have given head coach Monk an option.

Playing in front of over 20,000 fans at Elland Road and for one of the biggest clubs of England could have inspired the Dane to step up his game, and perhaps he would have scored a few important goals.
