Leeds sold Chris Wood for £15 million a year ago.

Leeds United fans were gutted when top scorer Chris Wood walked out on the Whites last summer to clinch a Premier League move.

Wood scored on his Burnley debut, but since then his goals have been more sporadic.

10 goals in 24 games in his first season was a decent return. This season it has not been so good.

Wood has no goals in his opening six Premier League games, and last night failed to find the net again as Burnley were dumped out of the Carabao Cup in a 2-1 loss to Burton Albion.

Goals will come for Wood undoubtedly, but at £15 million, Leeds might have hit the jackpot by selling the striker when his value was at his highest.

Leeds paid £3 million to sign Wood in 2015.

13 goals in his first season was followed by 27 in his second year, and Leeds reluctantly cashed in.

The frustrating part for Leeds is that they did not spend the money gained from his sale well in his first season, and they are still waiting for strikers Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts to pay off this year, with both players suffering injuries.

Wood is the sort of target man who could have thrived at Leeds under manager Marcelo Bielsa, but the forward didn’t want to hang around in his pursuit of his Premier League dream.

Now in the top flight, Wood is facing his biggest test yet, and at the moment on current form, £15 million looks like better value from Leeds’ perspective than it does for Burnley.
