Eduardo Herrera made just his second Rangers league start at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty’s focus will have already switched to Saturday’s Old Firm derby against Celtic at Parkhead after the Gers comfortably beat Motherwell 2-0 at Ibrox.
Goals from Danny Wilson on his birthday and top scorer Alfredo Morelos was enough to get Murty’s Scottish giants back on track, after suffering two successive losses to St. Johnstone and Kilmarnock.
In what was Murty’s first win since being told he has the Ibrox job until the summer of 2018, Mexico international Eduardo Herrera was afforded just his second Scottish Premiership start of the campaign.
The 29-year-old came into the side after Josh Windass was forced to serve a one-match suspension, which saw the summer signing from Pumas partner Morelos up top.
The powerful striker held the ball up well at times, but that is the only good thing that can be said about his performance with a lack of pace alarmingly evident in the target man’s style of play.
The quick pace of Scottish football seemed to pass Herrera by, as he struggled to get involved in the match against Stephen Robinson’s men that ultimately saw the Gers gain revenge for their Betfred Cup semi-final defeat.
Already regarded as an expensive flop by the Ibrox faithful, Herrera simply did not do enough to earn a place in the side to face Old Firm rivals Celtic in two days’ time.
Instead, Windass is likely to reassume his newly-formed position up top alongside Morelos, with his pace and trickery with the ball key assets in Rangers’ pursuit of an unlikely three points against Brendan Rodgers’ side.
