Glasgow Rangers forward Dalcio has endured a miserable time since arriving at Ibrox on loan.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

With no appearances since September and two of his three competitive outings since joining coming against Progres in the Europa League humiliation in the summer, it may have surprised some supporters when Graeme Murty included Dalcio in his squad for Rangers’ mid-season tour to Florida.

Despite Murty taking a large group, the Portuguese’s inclusion in the squad may have caused some confusion as he looked destined to go down in infamy as one of the most disappointing signings in the club’s history.

The 21-year-old has seriously struggled to make an impact since joining the Scottish Premiership side on loan, and it will probably surprise some if he ends the January transfer window still at Ibrox as they may be expecting the club to try and offload the winger.

A mid-season tour may have done little to win over the doubters – in fact, his performance in the first game of the tour would have probably strengthened his critics’ belief that he should not stay – but perhaps the Gers’ win over Corinthians in the second game just hinted that he may have the slightest chance of proving why he was brought to the club in the first place at some point down the line.

Dalcio played 83 minutes of their 4-2 against the Brazilian side and the performance just provided the slightest suggestion that he may have something there that could be worth keeping an eye on.

He played a crucial role in the Light Blues’ fourth goal, with some decent touches helping create the opening for James Tavernier to seal the comeback win.

It is obviously much too soon to assume that the game will prove to be a turning point in Dalcio’s Rangers career, but perhaps the performance in Florida may see Murty’s confidence in him increase slightly and may lead to the winger being given a few more chances to try and prove that he was written off just a little bit too early.

He’s still got a mountain to climb however.
