Celtic are reportedly willing to let Marvin Compper leave.

Marvin Compper of Leipzig looks on during the UEFA Champions League group G soccer match between RB Leipzig and Besiktas at the Leipzig Arena in Leipzig, Germany on December 06, 2017.

It seemed too good to be true when Celtic signed Marvin Compper in January.

It wasn’t so much about Compper himself, because he wasn’t a huge name, but the fact that Celtic were paying only £1 million for a 32-year-old Germany international seemed a very decent deal.

Fast forward nine months, however, and it was too good to be true.

According to The Sun, Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is hoping to offload Compper before Friday’s deadline, with the centre-back failing to make a single Premiership appearance in Scotland.

The one-time Germany international, who played 83 minutes in all competitions since joining the Bhoys, has been a horrendous signing.

But in hindsight, what did Brendan Rodgers expect?

This is a player who barely played for RB Leipzig during the first half of last season, clocking 109 minutes of game time across four cameo appearances, and often failed to make the Bundesliga club’s matchday squad.

Leipzig are a decent side, but one of their exiles was hardly going to be a huge hit at Parkhead and perhaps Rodgers ignored a major red flag when signing him.
