Aston Villa’s recruitment over the last few years leaves a lot to be desired.

Aston Villa-owned midfielder Jordan Veretout shared his desire to stay in France with Saint-Etienne when his season long loan deal comes to an end this summer, highlighting the Ligue 1 outfit’s trust in him as a player as the main reason why he has performed so much better then he did during his time with Villa last term, when speaking to French media outlet RMC.
The 24-year-old made the move to Villa Park from Nantes in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million, but failed to live up to high expectations.
He made 25 appearances for the Midlands outfit, and was part of their doomed Premier League campaign which eventually culminated in their relegation to the Championship.
And Veretout sat down for an interview with RMC, explaining how different this season has been to last term, from a personal perspective:
“I’m having a good season at Saint-Etienne and I would like a good finish. After which we will have time to discuss [my future] during the transfer window. I feel very good at Saint-Etienne, the club gave me the desire to play well, they trusted me too and we will see at the end of the season. I am focused on the end of the season, as well as the objectives of the club. We have already talked with the leaders. We will see at the end of the season what I will do.”
Saint -Etienne have impressed during their 2016/17 Ligue 1 campaign, and currently sit in seventh position in the table, with Veretout flourishing.
The Frenchman is hardly the most popular of figures at amongst the Villans fanbase, with his constant stream of disparaging comments directed at the Midlands club.
And a permanent move away from Villa Park seems to be growing more likely with every week that passes.
