Did Aguero get a World Cup medal? Many are confused after spotting the Manchester City legend celebrate with Argentina.
Even now, days after Sunday’s thrilling final in Qatar, a number of people have asked if the 34-year-old officially went down as a World Cup winner after noticing him wearing a gold medal on the pitch.
So, did Aguero get a World Cup medal? Or was he simply borrowing one to wear in photographs? Let’s take a look…
Did Aguero get a World Cup medal?
Well, to put it simply, no – Aguero did not get a World Cup medal.
Some noticed that the South American seemed to be wearing a medal inside Argentina’s dressing room after the incredible win over France, although it was actually his VIP pass flipped around, as you can see below.
Clearly, the shade of Lionel Messi’s official medal is different to what many believed to be Aguero’s medal – as aforesaid, it is simply his VIP & media pass.
According to The Athletic, Argentina did offer Aguero the chance to join the coaching staff ahead of the World Cup, which would have officially secured him a medal, although he respectfully declined the invitation.
The Manchester City legend opted to join ESPN Argentina’s commentary team, while also acting as something of a cheerleader in the latter stages of the World Cup, rooming with Messi to help the 35-year-old remain settled.
There are images of Aguero wearing a medal circulating on Twitter, as a false rumour about him officially being registered as a coach for the World Cup swirls around.

The Argentine unfortunately missed out on the chance to win the World Cup after being forced to retire from professional football in December 2021 due to a heart condition, shortly after joining Barcelona.
Nevertheless, Lionel Scaloni, Messi and the rest of the squad made sure he felt like part of the group, which was very pleasing to see.
