Everton are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United winger Memphis Depay.
Former Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat has backed a potential loan move for Memphis Depay to Everton, as per his quotes in the Daily Mail.
Everton are reportedly working on a deal to sign Depay from Manchester United in the January transfer window.
The Toffees want to sign Depay on a loan move, with a view to a permanent transfer if he impresses at Goodison Park.
And Advocaat, who handed Depay his first team debut with PSV, feels that the increased exposure to first-team football that the winger would get with Everton would aid his development.
“The potential is there for him to be a good player,” Advocaat said. “You cannot lose that, he has the quality to be a top player.
“But the problem is for him is that there are so many quality players in that squad, so for himself it’s important to start playing regularly at the age he’s at.
“Otherwise, the way I think is that maybe he has to find another solution, because he’s too good to sit on the bench.
“I still believe in him. He has the right mentality and the right character to play for United, but there are so many options there. Regular playing time will help his progression.”
Depay joined United when he was regarded as one of the hottest prospects in European football, but he has barely featured for the Red Devils this season.
The 22-year-old has made just one appearance for United in the Premier League, with his career stalling ever since he moved to Old Trafford last year.
If Depay does move to Everton, he will be expected to play a more prominent role for Ronald Koeman’s side.
Depay would be in competition with the likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Kevin Mirallas and Yannick Bolasie if he was to move to Everton.
