Janssen has been told he has no future at Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Netherlands manager, Dick Advocaat, has hit out at Tottenham Hotspur over the club’s treatment of Vincent Janssen.
Janssen has been informed by the Tottenham boss, Mauricio Pochettino, that he has no future at Spurs.
That is despite the absence of three key attackers, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Heung-min Son.
And, speaking to Voetbal International, Advocaat claimed that Janssen – for whom Tottenham paid £20 million to sign two-and-a-half-years ago – is in fact better than the £12 million player currently tasked with filling that void.
“Vincent, in my eyes, is a complete striker. He scores easily, sees the game well, he is strong and fast,” he said. “I really wonder what Tottenham thought when they bought him. You pay a fortune for a new striker, you barely give him the chance and you want to get rid of him after a year. I do not get it.
“If you then see the Spaniard who they bought later – Vincent has a lot more quality than Fernando Llorente.”
Janssen made his last appearance for Tottenham’s first team in August 2017, shortly before he was loaned to Fenerbahce.
But the 24-year-old struggled in Turkey and has spent much of the current campaign out injured, although he has recently built up his fitness in Spurs’ Under-23s.
And according to Advocaat, Janssen “has to leave Spurs – as soon as possible.”
But he added: “After his long absence at the highest level, I find it difficult to say what he should aim at now.
“Germany seems a bit like Vincent.”
