Chris Wood came off the bench for a second week in a row to score a vital goal for Leeds United against Blackburn Rovers.

The Whites won the game 1-0 through Wood’s 84th minute goal, a header from close range after his earlier shot was blocked.

Leeds are now into the fourth round of the EFL Cup, having beaten Fleetwood Town and Luton Town in the earlier rounds.

Wood’s goal was his third in three consecutive games, and sixth of the season so far.

He had come under pressure from fans earlier in the campaign after a slow start, and while last night’s goal was not easy on the eye, they all count, and it was a game changing one.

Teammate Toumani Diagouraga praised Wood on Twitter, with a brief message indicating he is ‘on fire’ at present.

Diagouraga has been a forgotten figure under manager Garry Monk, despite having started their first game of the season, a 3-0 defeat to QPR.

He was since dropped and has not featured at all in September, and did not even make the bench for last night’s cup clash.
