Scottish Premiership champions Celtic reportedly wanted to sign Leicester City’s Fousseni Diabate and Ligue 1 striker Moussa Konate.

In another world, Fousseni Diabate and Moussa Konate could have been getting ready to form a new-look forward partnership at Celtic.
But, in a strange twist of fate, two players who were linked with The Hoops in the final few days of the transfer window are now set to lead the line together in Ligue 1 with relegation-threatened Amiens.
According to the Daily Record in late August, Celtic were interested in signing Diabate from Leicester City, just 18 months after he moved to the King Power Stadium from Gazelec Ajaccio.
The speedy Malian was, at least for a fleeting moment, tipped to replace Riyad Mahrez at The Foxes and he did those comparisons no harm whatsoever with two goals on a dazzling debut during a 5-1 FA Cup thrashing of Peterborough United.
But Diabate fell out of favour almost immediately afterwards and, after brief links with the Scottish champions, sealed a season-long loan move to Amiens – where he could be about to form a thrilling forward partnership with Konate.

According to Foot Mercato, Celtic were interested in landing the Senegal striker too before the window slammed shut, despite a rather underwhelming record of seven goals in 28 games last season. Interestingly, Konate was also a Celtic target during Brendan Rodgers’ first season at Parkhead.
Just imagine for a second that Konate and Diabate strike up an immediate understanding and fire Amiens up the table over the next few months. Celtic will be praying that they don’t regret failing to get these two deals over the line.
